RitmeNatura facilitates the collaboration between Diputació de Barcelona and Meteocat
Diputació de Barcelona and Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) have signed a collaboration agreement in order to reinforce the Catalan phenologic network (FENOCAT). This collaboration will improve the knowledge about how climate change impacts in Diputació de Barcelona’s Natural Areas. Both institutions met in the codesigning sessions organised to create the citizen’s observatory RitmeNatura.
FENOCAT, created in 2013, is the service that allows phenological observations along Catalonia, so experts can monitor climate change’s impact in biodiversity. There are other initiatives to preserve and increase the quantity and quality of phenological observations, but FENOCAT coordinates a group of observers who track three living being groups: plants, birds and daytime butterflies. This agreement will widen Fenocat’s network adding new observers, who will receive four training sessions about the observation methodology.
Meteocat’s director, Eliseu Vilaclara, and on duty’s member of Parliament of Natural Spaces and Environment of Diputació de Barcelona, Valentí Junyent, have signed the collaboration agreement, which will last four years.
